This fictional teleserye follows the lives of two childhood friends, Jacky Montefalco (Yen Santos) and Lino Bartolome (Jericho Rosales), bound by together by loyalty for one another and a deep friendship with each other’s families, torn apart by a vengeful man and then thrust together by a cruel twist of fate, broken promises and betrayal.
Jacky is the heiress of MonteCorp Furniture, a renowned furniture establishment in the Philippines and Asia. She is the only daughter of Mauro and Loida Montefalco (Precious Lara Quigaman), pillars of high society in the country and owners of MonteCorp. Jacky learns early on that she is not the natural offspring of the man she thought was her father. Nevertheless, she longs for her adoptive father’s acceptance.
Mauro Montefalco (Romnick Sarmenta) is a proud and cruel man who kills his wife’s lover, and raises her daughter as his legal child. This is as far as his benevolence goes as he is extremely cruel and dismissive to his daughter. Though he keeps up with the filial appearances to save his face, he dislikes his daughter and directs his anger on the Bartolome family and makes it his life’s goal to bring them down.
Agustin Bartolome (Allan Paule) was a talented furniture designer whose pieces under the Montefalco brand are much sought after. It is through Agustin that Loida meets her lover, Robert Oliva. Loida was the suffering wife of the cruel and domineering Mauro. The couple fall in love. Loida attempts to leave her husband to join Robert but he is killed by Mauro. Jacky is the fruit of their relationship.
MonteCorp was originally the Ybañez Furniture Group of Cebu, a well known furniture company founded by Loida’s patrician parents, and to which Mauro took over when his in-laws passed. They worked with an independent designer, Agustin Bartolome, whose modern creations were gaining interest in the market. When Mauro took over the reins of Yñiguez Furniture, he kept Agustin in his employ, recognizing his unique talent in his designs.
Years later and rebranded as MonteCorp, the company expands into the Asian market, but their financial growth and success does not change his maltreatment of his furniture workers. Neither does he give credit to his designers for their creations. In a labor disagreement with his workers, Agustin Bartolome is killed in a suspicious warehouse fire. Knowing the value of Agustin’s designs, Mauro steals Agustin’s portfolio of drawings, a worn out yet prolific sketch book containing numerous drawings of furniture pieces that have not yet been executed, all signed by Agustin.
Agustin’s death results to a parting of ways and bitterness between the Bartolomes and the Montefalcos.
Even Lino’s and Jacky’s relationship does not survive the domestic turmoil and Mauro’s treacherous attempts to keep them separated. The childhood best friends and teenage sweethearts part ways.
Years pass. Lino, Agustin’s son who inherits his father’s creative talent, soon establishes a furniture design group called Dos Disenyos. His modern, fast forward designs catch the attention of the younger market and he becomes a serious contender to MonteCorp’s market share. But the bitterness of his family’s experience with the Montefalcos remains. Lino suspects MonteCorp’s success comes from his father’s creations but is not able to prove it because of the missing portfolio.
Years later, Lino falls in love with an ambitious woman, Jade Flores (Yam Concepcion) while his furniture factory and studio Dos Disenyos takes off. His designs are making waves, attracting the international and a more sophisticated market. On the domestic front, Lino continues to care for Jade, mother Dolor and sister Maggie. Having her in-laws living in their house irks Jade. This becomes a bone of contention between the couple. Jade longs for a house of their own, independent from her in-laws and any extended family.
Meanwhile, Jacky marries Ace Corpuz (Sam Milby), the eldest son of her father’s business partner. Jacky is very much in love with him, despite her suspicions of his womanizing. Ace is a serial womanizer who is glib enough to get away with his philandering.
By a cruel twist of fate, Lino and Jacky’s lives collide once more when Jade and Ace become entangled in a scandalous affair. At the same time, Jacky’s mother dies from a supposedly self inflicted gunshot to her chest, which Jacky refuses to believe.
But before Loida dies, she takes steps to make things right for Jacky and the Bartolomes when she returns Agustin’s missing portfolio to Lino and his family. And after years of advising her daughter to defer to and stick by her father, she gives Jacky permission to free herself from her domineering father. Her death leaves Jacky with a larger stake in MonteCorp, a seat in the board and a significant say in the company. This allows Jacky the freedom to resign from her father without compromising her ownership in the firm. It’s a liberating resource that Jacky uses to fight for what is right and protect her factory workers and employees from her father’s unfair labor exploitation. But it isn’t easy. They consistently lock heads on several employee relations issues, and Mauro has a more sinister agenda up his sleeve: the total downfall of the Bartolomes and Dos Disenyos, and the destruction of his adoptive daughter.
At the same time, both Jacky and Lino experience the heaviest trial in their respective marriages, the devastating discovery of their spouses’ affair, with consequences reaching far beyond their domestic circle.
As Mauro escalates his revenge against Lino with devious underhanded tactics and industrial espionage, Jacky uses whatever clout she has in the company to thwart her father’s plans. Devastated and heartbroken over Ace’s betrayal, she learns to fight back and kicks Ace out of their home.
Lino also fights back, using legal means and his righteous conviction that the truth will bring his father’s death to justice. Completely devastated over Jade’s betrayal, Lino struggles to overcome his feelings for her and focuses on uncovering the truths: about his wife’s infidelity and about his father’s death.
The story covers the ugly aftermath of the affair and the repercussions of their on their lives. As more secrets and scandals are exposed, the two betrayed spouses join forces to bring Mauro and his accomplices to justice, reckon with their spouses and attempt to close the painful chapters of their past. It is not easy, their efforts are fraught with sabotage, treachery and danger. Mauro will stop at nothing to achieve his goals.
This story is an accurate and honest portrayal of the challenges of marriage, emotional abuse and dysfunctional relationships. It is also about the triumph of good over evil.
